theScore Bet - 'theScore Bet is an average sportsbook that has the potential to be great. theScore Bet doesn't contain much of the awesome stats and info that theScore Media app has used to attract users over the last seven years. theScore Bet offers basic bets and sports, but bettors looking for player prop bets and sports like cricket or darts will have to look elsewhere.” Read full review

DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings delivers the ultimate package for sports bettors, including unique contests and bet types, industry-leading pre-game statistics, excellent education for beginners, Daily Fantasy contests, and private pools with friends. This outstanding all-round experience makes DraftKings our top overall sportsbook in 2020. Read full review

Minimum deposit: $5

Who choose DraftKings Sportsbook:

  • Great for beginners. DraftKings’ noteworthy educational materials include guidance on how to bet and different bet types, as well as sport-specific guides that cover common strategies for betting success.
  • Unique bets and contests. The variety of sports and bets offered —one of the largest selections of unique bet types and contests we’ve seen — and an excellent live betting experience makes DraftKings one heck of a sportsbook.
  • Bonuses: Promotions change throughout the year, but typical ones include risk-free bets up to $1,000 for new bettors, and deposit matches, among others. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

FanDuel

FanDuel Sportsbook is a winner in 2021 for its easy-to-use website and mobile app, variety of prop bets, and its top-of-the-line live betting. FanDuel combines all of that with competitive odds and daily fantasy sports integration to deliver one excellent sportsbook. Read full review

Minimum deposit: $10

Why choose FanDuel Sportsbook:

  • Excellent mobile app. With its focus on usability, we found the FanDuel Sportsbook app to be one the best-designed apps overall.
  • Great for bettors. High-quality live betting, variety of bets offered, and noteworthy odds are all features new and experienced bettors will appreciate.
  • Bonuses: Promotions change throughout the year, but typically FanDuel offers a risk-free bet up to $1,000, and several other smaller seasonal offerings. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

BetRivers

BetRivers is an excellent sports betting option for residents of Pennsylvania. Although the odds are just average, I enjoyed the wide variety of bets, easy to use mobile app, and great live betting experience, which focuses on streaming games and offering real-time bets. Read full review

Minimum Deposit: $10

Why Choose BetRivers Sportsbook:

  • Terrific for live betting. BetRivers is one of a few sportsbooks to offer live streaming of sports games in-app. Live streaming is currently limited to tennis and soccer but has the potential to expand. BetRivers also provides a wide range of bets, in addition to instant bets (e.g., each point of a tennis match). I see instant bets becoming more popular in the years to come. For example, imagine being able to bet on key plays of a Steelers game.
  • Low-rollover bonus. The 100% deposit match promotion with a 1X rollover is the best bonus I have seen in Pennsylvania for 2020 thus far. If you are new to sports betting, a 1X rollover is a perfect way to dip your feet in the water while receiving a bonus.
  • Bonuses: Promotions change throughout the year, but typically BetRivers offers a 100% first deposit match up to $250. This bonus is unique because it only has a 1X rollover, where typical rollovers range from 3X – 10X.

PointsBet

PointsBet brings a new style of betting to the United States, and frankly, I'm a huge fan. PointsBetting is unique and fun enough to justify opening an account with PointsBet, regardless of whether you have other sports betting accounts. While some sportsbook functions, such as live betting, can be improved, PointsBet offers good odds and an excellent palate of bets to choose from. Read full review

Minimum Deposit: $5

Why Choose PointsBet:

  • You’re interested in PointsBetting. PointsBetting takes a spread, total, or prop bet and makes it a variable bet until the end of the game. The idea is, the more correct a bettor is, the more they win, and vice versa.
For example, let's say you bet $10 on the Dallas Cowboys (-3) against the Jacksonville Jaguars (+3). If Dallas wins 24-20, you covered the spread and won by one point. For this example, you multiply your $10 wager by one, for a total win of $10. If Dallas wins 26-20, you covered the spread and won by three points. For this example, you multiply your $10 wager by three, for a total win of $30. If Dallas loses 17-20, you lost the spread by six points (the three Jacksonville won by plus the three Dallas was favored). For this example, you multiply your $10 wager by six, for a total loss of $60.
  • Bonuses: Typically, PointsBet offers two risk-free bets up to $500 on the first fixed odds bet and PointsBetting Bet, as well as various seasonal promotions. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

William Hill

Excellent odds and an above-average mobile app are two plusses for the William Hill sportsbook. The biggest strikes against it are its thin selection of sports and bets offered. It also falls short when it comes to education features and ongoing promotions. Read full review

Minimum deposit: $5

Why choose William Hill?

  • Good for spread bettors. For 2019 – 2020, William Hill offered the No. 1 odds on MLB and NHL spread bets, the No. 2 odds on NBA moneyline bets, and the No. 5 odds on soccer and NFL moneyline bets. (These results are based on data we collected from 21 sportsbooks.)
  • Bonuses: Promotions change throughout the year, but typically William Hill offers risk-free bets up to $500 for new bettors. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

BetAmerica

BetAmerica offers users a good mobile app and customer support. However, I found the overall experience to be just a tad above-average. Note, though, if you like horse racing, BetAmerica is the only sportsbook to offer horse race betting, albeit on a separate app. Read full review

Minimum Deposit: $1

Why Choose BetAmerica?

  • Good for betting on horse racing. BetAmerica provides racing data, handicapping, and education. They offer bets on qualifiers and small-time races and nationally televised races such as the Kentucky Derby. Live video streaming is available for horse and greyhound racing, as well as free handicapping info. Between harness racing, quarter horse racing, and greyhound racing, hundreds of races are available each week. Betting on horse racing is done through a separate app.
  • Bonuses: Promotions change throughout the year, but typically BetAmerica offers a “Bet $100, get $50 free” promo or other various seasonal offers. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

BetMGM

Make no mistake, despite being a casino-based brand, BetMGM is all in on sports betting. The BetMGM Sportsbook app provides users with a wide variety of sports and bets to wager on, in addition to a full suite of casino and poker games for applicable states. Read full review

Minimum deposit: $10

Why choose BetMGM?

  • Ability to edit open bets. BetMGM is one of the only sportsbooks that allows bettors to modify an open wager. This type of flexibility is a cool feature for those who enjoy live betting.
  • Bonuses: Promotions change throughout the year, but typically BetMGM offers a risk-free bet up to $500, as well as an array of ongoing seasonal promotions. Keep in mind there are typically rollover requirements attached to each bonus.

    How to Read Odds

Odds represent the likelihood of an outcome occurring. In sports betting, each team is assigned odds that represent the likelihood of them winning the game. American odds are what you will see displayed on every U.S. sportsbook and sports betting app.

The first thing you will notice when reading odds will be that:

    • Odds have either a plus or minus in front of them.
    • Odds are in terms of 100.

Betting Odds are written in terms of 100 as an industry standard. The easiest way to think of the plus and minus signs is as follows: If it is a plus, you will receive more than a $100 payout on a $100 bet. If it is a minus, you will have to bet more than $100 to win a $100 payout.

Thankfully, you can view your potential winnings on each bet before placing it at an online sportsbook. That said, it is beneficial to understand the betting odds.

Keep in mind for both spreads and totals, if the game ends in a draw for the bet, you get your stake back but do not win or lose any additional money.

    What is a Moneyline bet?

A moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the game outright. Both the favorite and the underdog are given odds to win the game. View sample bet slip.

Moneyline OddsHow to Read itWhat it Means
Lions +130Lions plus 130By betting $100 you will win $130 if the Lions win
Packers -150Packers minus 150To win $100, you must wager $150 on the Packers to win

    What is a Spread bet?

A spread bet is a wager on which team will cover the spread or point spread. Underdogs will be given additional points with the spread, while the favorite will have to win by a certain amount of points to cover the spread. View sample bet slip.

Spread OddsHow to Read itWhat it Means
Lakers + 5 (-110)Lakers plus 5 points at minus 110 oddsThe Lakers must win the game, or lose by less than 5 for you to win your bet
Rockets -5 (-110)Rockets minus 5 points at minus 110 oddsThe Rockets must win the game by more than 5 points for you to win your bet. A tie is a push, meaning you don't win or lose.

What is an Over/Under (Total) bet?

An over/under bet focuses on how many points are scored, regardless of who wins the game. After a total point score has been set, bettors can wager whether the game's actual score will be over or under the preset point score. View sample bet slip.

    Total OddsHow to Read it
Over 7 (-115)In order to win $100, you must bet $115 on the overall combined run score to be higher than 7
Under 7 (-110)In order to win $100, you must wager $110 on the total combined run score to be less than 7

More of a visual person? Here's a YouTube video covering moneyline, spread, and total bets.

    What is a Parlay bet?

    What is a Future bet?

A futures bet is a bet on an event that takes place in days, weeks, or months. The most common future bets are placed on what team will win the finals before the season starts. View example bet slip.

    What are Bonus Rollover Requirements?

Rollover requirements are requirements bettors MUST fulfill before they can withdraw the bonus money. Each type of bonus has different terms and conditions, which you should examine before accepting.

Rollover requirements for sports betting often range between 1X-10X, with some extreme requirements going all the way up to 15X. For example, let’s say you deposit $100 and receive a $50 bonus with a 5X rollover. Before you can withdraw the $50 in bonus funds, you have to wager $750 (($100 + $50)x5). Clearly, the $50 bonus is a lot harder to obtain if you don’t bet frequently.

This table gives you an idea of how much you will have to wager before withdrawing your bonus at multiple rollover rates. We will assume each deposit made is $100.

Bonus Percentage ($100 Deposit)Bonus AmountBonus Withdrawal with 1X RolloverBonus Withdrawal with 3X RolloverBonus Withdrawal with 5X Rollover Bonus Withdrawal with 10X Rollover
    25% Deposit Match$25(100+25)x1 = $125(100+25)x3 = $375(100+25)x5 = $625 (100+25)x10 = $1,250
    50% Deposit Match$50(100+50)x1 = $150(100+50)x3 = $450(100+50)x5 = $750(100+50)x10 = $1,500
    100% Deposit Match$100(100+100)x1 = $200(100+100)x3 = $600(100+100)x5 = $1,000(100+100)x10 = $2,000

Indiana sports betting became legal in September of 2019 and brought joy to bettors in the state. It was a milestone for the casino industry, considering Indiana is one of the very few states that were yet to do it.

It was a slow start in the beginning, with only a couple of casinos taking bets. Eventually though, everyone got comfortable with the new privilege, and 10 other casinos joined in to provide sports betting. Nowadays, you can find many Indiana sportsbooks who will take action on most bets.

The variety has also expanded. Players can put their money on all kinds of sports, including football, boxing, golf, and many more. College games are also available statewide. The only things you can’t bet on are highschool games and junior leagues.

Indiana Sports Betting Laws

Now, you may be curious about when Indiana online sports betting became legal. As mentioned before, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992, also known as PASPA was struck down in 2018 by the United States Supreme Court. The overturning of the act gave each state the opportunity to pass their own legislation regarding sports betting and online sports betting.

Some states, like New Jersey, in particular, took no time in enacting their own sports betting legislation. In May of 2019, the governor of Indiana signed their own sports betting legislation into law. So, sports betting both online and in-person at a casino is now officially legal in the state of Indiana.

Sports betting licenses began being issued in July of 2019. Retail sportsbooks were allowed to open their doors in early September 2019. Online sports betting launched statewide officially at the beginning of October 2019. Indiana Gaming Commission is responsible for the regulation and licensing enforcement.

It is important to note that only Indiana sports betting and Indiana online sports betting is being talked about above. Indiana casinos and Indiana online casinos have their own legislation. As of right now, casinos are legal in Indiana.

And, it is legal for these casinos to apply for licenses to operate retail sportsbooks. However, online casinos in Indiana are not yet legal. So, you should keep an eye out for legislation to allow for online casinos in the state.

Common Types of Bets

There are many common types of bets that you can place when engaging in Indiana online sports betting. For these bets, you will want to make sure to check out the betting odds when placing your wagers.

In order to make the best use of your wagers, you will need to make sure you understand betting odds. These odds can help you calculate the potential payout you will receive for a winning bet.

Plus, you will want to make sure you know which bets to place. Placing the best bet for each event is important in order to try and win the most you can. So, here is an explanation for the most popular bets you will find.

  • Outright Win – The most common type of sports bet. In an outright win bet, you choose the team (or player in a game like tennis or golf) who you believe will be the outright winner of the match.
  • Prop Bets – In sports betting, a 'proposition bet' is also called a prop bet. It is a bet made surrounding the happening or not happening during a sporting event of something occurring that is not directly affecting the game's ultimate outcome.
  • Point Spreads - has to do with betting on the points scored in the sporting event. You are betting on what you believe the score will be at a certain point in the game.
  • First Player to Score – This is a fun kind of bet to place on a sporting event that involves teams. You will simply place your bet on the player that you expect to score first.
  • Winning Team at Halftime – The team that leads at halftime is not always the team that wins the match. So, you can put this challenge to yourself and place a halftime winner bet.

Most Popular Sports to Bet On

In Indiana, the most popular sports to bet on tend to be the most popular sports in the United States. Each state has sports that are more watched than others.

Typically, a sport is more popular in a state if that state has its own professional sports team for it.

However, you will also want to look into which sports are most popular in the country as a whole. That way, you will be aware of all of the sporting events you could be betting on. And, you can take advantage of the betting seasons associated with each sport.

  • Basketball (NBA / NCAAb) – Indiana is a huge fan of basketball as a whole. The birthplace of the sport, Indiana is basketball central. Whether it’s the Pacers in the NBA, betting on the Hoosiers at Indiana State, or backing the Fever to win the WNBA, Indiana basketball betting has got you covered.
  • Football (NFL & NCAAf) – Indiana is, without doubt, a state that loves football. Of course, football is perhaps the most popular sport in America. With the Colts a consistently strong team in the regular season, betting on Indiana football might be worth a look.
  • Baseball (MLB) – Baseball is, as they say, as American as apple pie. So, it is no surprise that Indiana sports fans love to bet on baseball. Despite not having a state team, Hoosiers across the state watch and bet on baseball.
  • Hockey (NHL) – Hockey is another sport that owes its popularity in Indiana to the northern climate of the Hoosier State. While the state doesn’t have it’s own NHL team, that doesn’t mean you can’t find hockey fans who want to bet. Maybe one day they’ll start back up the Central Hockey League and Indiana can shine once more.

Popular Indiana Events

Another important factor when getting into Indiana online sports betting is to know about which sporting events are popular in the state. Indiana has its own sports that fans tend to be more excited about. So, you will want to know which events are going to be highly watched and bet on in the state.

Indiana has two professional sports teams that are extremely popular in the state. These teams are the Indiana Pacers in the NBA (basketball) and the Indiana Colts in the NFL (football). So, basketball and football games that involve these two teams will be very popular in the Indiana sports betting market.

In addition, you will want to look into college football betting. As Notre Dame University is located in Indiana, you will see that the Notre Dame sports teams are also very popular in the state. However, you will want to look into the college sports betting laws in the state.

Betting on Pro Sports Teams in Indiana

The Indiana sports betting markets came out with all major leagues as headliners. Players could bet on the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS in any Indiana sportsbook. Over the months, it’s extended to almost every professional sports team in the state.

You can also bet on single-player sports like tennis and golf, and they do play in leagues on occasions. Many Indiana betting sites also offer brackets for these games.

NFL Betting in Indiana

With the legalization of Indiana online sports betting comes the thrilling events of the most popular sports to bet on, including NFL games.

There are so many ways you can get your money in on NFL games. Most Indiana sportsbooks offer the same lines with varying odds.

Players have a lot of options when it comes to football. Starting the season with some preliminary game bets could earn you some juicy bonuses. If you can’t wait for the playoffs, try setting up brackets and play the long game.

The most popular betting options for NFL matches are Spreads and Moneyline. You’ll find them on every bookmaker site. Since it’s a competitive scene, the odds are pretty consistent across Indiana betting sites.

Betting on the Indiana Colts

The Colts are Indiana’s only NFL team and a two-time Superbowl champion. Betting on them is a bit tricky. If you’re from IN and want to support the home team, that’s fine. From a financial standpoint, however, it’s not always the best choice. The Indiana sports betting market has much better options for its players.

The team has been quiet for several seasons, despite making it to the playoffs a couple of years back. They’d be a good matchup against lower-tier teams, depending on the odds.

NBA Betting in Indiana

Basketball is another popular sport on Indiana betting sites. You’ll find tons of games, including NBA pre-season and off-season.

NBA matches are known to have tight odds, making it one of the most difficult sports on which to place a winning bet. Playing at such a fast pace makes live betting super intense. If you’re a beginner, it’s best to just pick a winner, given reasonable odds.

Over/under is the most mainstream option in most Indiana sportsbooks. It’s an easy bet to win and takes little research. Indiana sports betting legalization has brought many bookies with the option to place over/unders.

Betting on the Indiana Pacers

The Pacers are the state NBA team with a couple of championships under their belt. That was a long time ago, though.

In recent years, they have managed to make the playoffs many seasons in a row, but that is the extent of their success. You can bet on the Pacers before playoffs begin, as they’re still a strong team. After that, there will be way better choices in the Indiana sports betting pools.

NHL Betting in Indiana

Hockey is an explosive sport and has the tendency to go beyond simple scoring. Many weird side bets surround NHL games, such as who would end up fighting who. It’s also got the most aggressive player base of all the Indiana sports betting markets.

Other than that, the NHL has some exciting betting options. Players can wager based on Puck Line, which is similar to Spreads. If a team wins or loses within that line, you stand the chance to make some money.

Since the NHL is smaller than basketball and football, the odds for these games can go pretty high. Bookies need to keep a balanced player base among the major leagues, so they sometimes raise the odds in your favor.

Though Indiana online sports betting is legal, there are still some restrictions on in-play wagering. Some casinos still offer lighter forms of live betting for NHL games, so keep an eye out for that.

Betting on the Fort Wayne Komets

Indiana doesn’t have an NHL team, but there is a pro hockey team. The Komets are considered a minor league team and have won over 12 division titles.

Unfortunately, not a lot of Indiana sports betting casinos cover non-national sports leagues. You won’t find much action involving the Komets.

MLS Betting in Indiana

While Americans are just warming up to the sport, soccer still has the largest audience in the world. This remains the case when it comes to Indiana sports betting. Major leagues in soccer have the highest player base in the market.

The Indiana online sports betting markets have some fun wagers in MLS games. For example, you can bet on goals or score, or both. You can also go with regular options like moneyline and parlays.

Betting on MLS teams in Indiana
